Résumé de la thèse

My thesis examines US foundation efforts to transfer and create organizations and institutions of knowledge in the Levant region of the Middle East. More specifically the research examines programs funded by the Near East Foundation and the Ford Foundation. Much of the focus of these organizations' efforts to transfer knowledge to rural populations as programs of education, cooperation, and development. The periodization for this research is 1922-1972. By bridging the Interwar to the Cold War programs, ideas, and individuals will be one focal point, while the disruptions caused by the war and realignment and expansion of programs in the Cold War will be the other main point of focus. The research will contextualize these smaller programs within the global contexts of education and development.
