| Résumé de la thèse | In this project, I will edit and do a preliminary analysis of a 17th-century Indian manuscript. The Mahābhārat is one of the most influential stories that circulated in India and has a tradition of retelling in different languages, regions, and religions. I will make a critical edition of a Jain Mahābhārat that was translated into Old Hindi and hope to problematize the language-audience divide by analyzing the difference in gendered character depiction: on the one hand the Old Hindi translation, and the Sanskrit hypotext, which served as the basis of translation, on the other hand. |
